THE ULTIMATE RACE THROUGH THE FOOTHILLS OF THE PENNINE MOORS

The Dan Lee Mil Race was established 2023 in memory of former Royal Marine and Firefighter Dan Lee.

Dan passed away in August 2022 after a tragic accident. He served 6 years as a Royal Marine and 16 years with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service as a Firefighter and Watch Manager.

Dan Lee was passionate about his work, his people and community. The race is non profit and has been set up to bring people together, work as a team and generate funds for both The Royal Marines Charity and Fire Fighters Charity.

Race Day

TRAINING PLAN EXAMPLE

  • Tab/ Yomp- this is to be completed in boots or Bergen/rucksack, this is a fast pace walk and run
  • The training days/runs can be adapted to suit the individuals work and lifestyle commitments
  • Fartlek training is a type of running training which involves various speeds and intensity alternating between bursts of sprinting and jogging or even walking (example 50m sprinting uphill, 50m walking uphill)
  • Note as a minimum try to complete all * training sessions, although to be more effective completion of all would be more beneficial.
  • Swim/ Cross Train is optional and can be any other type of training (example weight training, circuit) Rest days can be stretch sessions

Testimonies

‘’I initially entered the Dan Lee Mill Race to help with fundraising efforts and to challenge myself. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy myself so much! The whole experience from the runner’s brief, right through to the award presentations contributed to a fantastic day out. The course was well thought out with varying terrain and elevation and the views were amazing. Even the post event food was top notch! I’m looking forward to taking part again this year and will be encouraging as many people as possible to do so. What a great event.”

GM Simon Wood (winner of the inaugural clean fatigue race)

“ Amazing route, buzzing atmosphere and a really good challenge. Proud to be part of this community in memory of Dan Lee ”
